Along with the start date, the council locked in a rule that changes how clubs pick their teams. From this season, every side can field a maximum of three foreign players in its starting XI. That’s a deliberate push to get more Indian players match minutes, and it’s likely to reshape squad depth across the league.

A few scheduling details are still being ironed out. The AIFF has confirmed the kickoff date and the foreign player cap, but the round-by-round fixture list and the exact format haven’t been released yet. Last season ran on a two-stage system, and here’s roughly how that worked:

  • Stage 1: All clubs played a single-leg home-and-away round robin.
  • Stage 2: The top six advanced to a championship round, while the bottom sides went into a centralised relegation round.
  • Points from Stage 1 carried over into Stage 2, so early results still counted.

Expect something similar for 2026-27, though the AIFF hasn’t confirmed it yet. Once the fixture list drops, you’ll find the full matchday-by-matchday schedule on our fixtures page.

One more thing worth flagging: last season, the AIFF made floodlights mandatory for every IFL stadium and shifted matches to evening kickoffs to boost primetime viewership. Clubs that skip this face a fine, so don’t be surprised if this rule carries into 2026-27 as well.

2025-26 Final Standings (Last Completed Season)

Points Table: Where Things Stand Right Now

Since the 2026-27 season hasn’t kicked off yet, there’s no live points table to show you at the moment. That’ll change once matches begin on October 16.

PosClubPWDLGFGAGDPts
1Diamond Harbour FC0000–––0
2Shillong Lajong FC0000–––0
3Sreenidi Deccan FC0000–––0
4Rajasthan United FC0000–––0
5Chanmari FC0000–––0
6Dempo SC0000–––0

Diamond Harbour FC topped that table and lifted their maiden title, edging out Shillong Lajong FC by a single point on the final day.

That win also earned them promotion to the ISL, which is why you won’t see them in this season’s IFL club list below. Gokulam Kerala, Real Kashmir, Aizawl FC and Namdhari made up the relegation group, and Namdhari finished bottom, dropping down to I-League 2.

Meet The Clubs: IFL 2026-27 Lineup

Eleven clubs will compete for the title this season, and the lineup has changed quite a bit since last year. Two clubs earned their way up through promotion, one arrived after relegation from the top flight, and two others exited the league entirely.

Aizawl FC

Aizawl, Mizoram · Est. 1984

FC Bengaluru United

Bengaluru, Karnataka · Est. 2018

Chanmari FC

Aizawl, Mizoram · Est. 1949

Delhi FC

New Delhi, Delhi · Est. 2019

Dempo SC

Panaji, Goa · Est. 1968

Gokulam Kerala FC

Kozhikode, Kerala · Est. 2017

Mohammedan SC

Kolkata, West Bengal · Est. 1891

Rajasthan United FC

Jaipur, Rajasthan · Est. 2015

Real Kashmir FC

Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir · Est. 2016

Shillong Lajong FC

Shillong, Meghalaya · Est. 1983

Sreenidi Deccan FC

Hyderabad, Telangana · Est. 2020

A quick rundown of what changed and why:

  • Delhi FC won the I-League 2 2025-26 title and earned an instant return to the second tier.
  • FC Bengaluru United finished level on points with United SC in I-League 2 but went up on goal difference.
  • Mohammedan Sporting Club got relegated from the ISL after finishing bottom without a win, and now steps down to the IFL. Given their history and fan base, they’ll be one of the sides to watch this season.
  • Diamond Harbour FC graduated to the ISL after their title win, and Namdhari dropped to I-League 2 after finishing last. Neither features in the IFL this time around.

Two clubs, Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC, share the same home city and stadium. Aizawl and Shillong Lajong are also among the league’s older names, while Delhi FC and Bengaluru United bring a fresher, younger energy to the table.

Head over to our full club profiles for squads, coaches and recent form on each side.

Where They Play

Venues: Where The Action Happens

This season’s 11 clubs are spread across nine states, from Mizoram in the northeast to Kerala in the south and Kashmir in the north. That geographic spread is honestly one of the more underrated things about the IFL. It’s not just a Kolkata and Goa affair anymore.

Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl

hosts both Aizawl FC and Chanmari FC, so expect a packed calendar in Mizoram once fixtures drop.

TRC Turf Ground, Srinagar

gives Real Kashmir FC one of the most atmospheric home grounds in Indian football, thanks to a fiercely loyal local crowd.

Fatorda Stadium in Margao

has hosted football since the I-League’s earliest seasons and remains one of Goa’s most historic grounds.

Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata

now becomes Mohammedan Sporting’s regular home in the second tier, a big step down in scale from their ISL nights at Salt Lake.

Last season, the AIFF made floodlights compulsory at every venue, with fines for clubs that couldn’t comply. So if you’re planning to catch a match live, expect evening kickoffs designed for primetime television.

Broadcast Guide

Live Streaming and TV Broadcast Details

Here’s the good news: catching every match won’t require a workaround this season. The IFL runs on the same broadcast setup as last year, split across TV and OTT.

TV broadcast

DD Sports and Sony Sports Network carry live matches.

OTT / streaming

You can also watch on the Waves app, Sony LIV, and the Prasar Bharati YouTube channel.

Last season drew 17.56 million live television viewers across the campaign, a number the AIFF specifically flagged while reviewing broadcast performance ahead of 2026-27. That’s a healthy number for India’s second tier, and it’s part of why the AIFF is investing in floodlights and primetime slots this season. Once broadcast details for 2026-27 are locked in officially, we’ll update this section right away.

Roll of Honour

Winners List: Every IFL and I-League Champion Since 2007

The Indian Football League carries the full history of the I-League, which ran under that name from 2007 until the 2026 rebrand. Here’s the complete list of champions across both eras.

SeasonChampions
2025-26 (IFL)Diamond Harbour FC
2024-25Inter Kashi FC

2010-11Salgaocar SC
2009-10Dempo SC
2008-09Churchill Brothers SC
2007-08Dempo SC

Dempo SC sits at the top with three titles, making them the most successful club in the competition’s history. Four more clubs, Churchill Brothers SC, Mohun Bagan AC, Bengaluru FC and Gokulam Kerala FC, have each won it twice. The rest of the list reads like a who’s who of one-season wonders: eight different clubs have lifted the trophy exactly once, including reigning champions Diamond Harbour FC, who did it in the league’s very first season under its new name. Not a bad way to kick off a rebrand.
